The star has donated the complete sum of his £25k award prize money to the Music Venues Trust, which functions to protect the United Kingdom's independent live music spots.

He was awarded the cheque on 16 October as his new release the album was named the top album of the past year.

He has opted to give the cash to the Music Venues Trust, in appreciation of the essential function grassroots venues played in his initial steps.

"As an artist couldn't be pursuing my current career if it weren't for all the gigs I performed around the North East, and beyond, when I was just getting going," remarked Sam Fender. "These locations are iconic, but they are facing challenges."

Beginning in 2023, over 150 of these venues have shut down – approximately one-sixth of the total UK scene.

Over the past year, major artists like the band Pulp, Coldplay, Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran have all backed the Music Venues Trust in its attempts to support the industry, by adding a modest fee to their ticket prices, which supports independent venues.

Sam Fender also participated, raising over £100k on his recent tour to assist 38 small stages across England, Scotland, and Wales.

These funds assisted spaces that were confronting imminent closure due to challenges caused by flooding, fires and bereavements, as well as regulatory hurdles, legal disputes and neighbor objections.

Some locations received monetary aid in upgrading facilities and technical equipment that helped artists and concertgoers.

"The concept that funds from concerts in large arenas supports the local stages, where it kicks off for musicians like me, is just sensible," Sam Fender has commented.

He is among several artists to give his award winnings to worthy causes.

When they received the prize in 1996 for their record their work, lead singer Cocker declared that the act would give their prize money to the charity the charity.

During 2002, artist she divided her bounty among several good causes, such as the children's charity and a Sickle Cell charity.

"And I gave a thousand pounds to my local community centre, to their gymnastics class, because I trained in gymnastics when I was younger and they lacked new equipment," Ms Dynamite told the media.

Previously, they gave their funds to the local youth club that developed their group, in addition to other grassroots music organisations.

Also 1994 winners M People gave their award to a MS organization after a close contact was found to have the condition.

"The victory was quite enough," remarked singer Heather Small. "The prize was the extra but we could do without the cherry, because we had the main prize. So our winning impacted another person's life."

In the past week, the trust announced it had rescued several small stages in that region, by bringing them into community ownership.

One venue in the city and the second in Bristol were acquired under the community ownership initiative, which is funded by the arts council and enthusiasts who acquire "shares" in the venues.
